Cory Phillips is the current Assistant Varsity Baseball Coach at Normal West High School and Head Coach for Game 7 Legacy. Originally from Bloomington-Normal, Phillips played middle infield on the top ranked Grand Valley State University baseball team and competed in the NCAA Division II World Series in 2011. The Lakers finished the successful season with a school record of 52-5. Phillips earned First Team All-GLIAC honors, as well as Second Team All-Mid-West Regional honors during the 2011
season. In 2009, Phillips played in the summer collegiate league with the Crystal Lake Cardinals and helped the team win a NABF College World Series in Toledo, Ohio.
Prior to competing at GVSU, Phillips played two years of NJCAA baseball at Heartland Community College in Normal, IL. While at Heartland, Phillips earned 2nd team All-Midwest Athletic Conference honors. Phillips helped the Hawks grow towards becoming a consistent winning program and a frequent NJCAA Division II World Series participant.
Prior to college, Phillips went to high school at Normal West and played shortstop in two regional championships, one sectional championship, and competed in a Super-Sectional (Elite 8) Championship game. Phillips earned First Team All-Big 12 Conference honors his senior season. Phillips has a strong interest in hitting mechanics, defensive fundamentals, and working with baseball players who are passionate about the sport.
