K's at The PIT
True power and velocity comes from the ground up. Having strong legs doesn’t matter if the core is weak. Having a strong core and legs doesn’t matter if the upper body is weak. Being jacked doesn’t matter if I cant maintain a full range of motion and move quickly. This program was developed over the last decade and in conjunction with the PIT Manager, Jesse Hawkins.
This is nearly an identical program that of several Pro players that I train in the off season.
While this is a baseball specific program…we focus on total athlete development. Some of the features that make this a ‘baseball player’ specific program is we spend a large amount of time focusing on rotational power, we monitor the amount of pressing we do and typically try to do most upper body movements one arm at a time. Why? As we develop as an overhead athlete, our throwing arm joints and bones actually morph in response to the physiological stressors placed on it. As a result, our throwing arm doesn’t move the same as our non throwing arm. Placing a flat bar in both hands and forcing them both to move the same is like jamming a square peg in a round hole. You might get it to fit…but at what cost? This is just a couple examples of what makes it a baseball specific program.
Intensity + Dysfunction= Injury! This is the motto we live by and drives our programming. That being said…we still focus on mass, strength and power to develop the total athlete.
